Mrs. Burch's Weekly Update (9/24)

Hi, parents! Happy Thursday! I'm sending the update a day early because I will be out tomorrow. Please make sure to call the office with any end of the day dismissal/schedule changes (517-540-8081). Don't forget--tomorrow is a half day! Dismissal is 12:05pm.

Next week is Homecoming week for HHS.  Even though it will look different this year, Hutchings would still like our students to participate and show some school spirit!  Below are our SPIRIT DAYS FOR for next week:

Monday    Pajama Day - Get comfortable for the day in your favorite PJ’s

Tuesday    Jersey Day - Wear your favorite team Jersey (College, Pro, or your own team)

Wednesday Hutchings Picture Day  - Dress your finest for a great pic

Thursday Throwback Day - Dress up from your favorite decade (1950’s through 2000’s)

Friday Highlander Day - Wear your best green and gold Howell gear!  

Spelling Starts next week!

We are going to begin spelling next week. Your child will bring home five word preview words on Monday. These will be their focus words for the week. On Friday, they will complete a written test that includes those five words, along with several other second grade frequency words. Only the five word preview words that were sent home on Monday will be scored. The other words will be corrected and added to your child’s words to learn list. Those are the words that he or she still needs to practice and learn, but they will not be graded and put into PowerSchool for spelling. If you had older siblings, this is a change from how we scored/graded spelling in the past. We are tweaking it this year because of the amount of time these kiddos missed on spelling and phonics in the spring. We may change and adjust to our normal grading later in the year, but for now we are going to focus on those five word preview words. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Homework Reminder:

• Please remind your child to check Seesaw each weekday evening for homework. (No Seesaw homework on the weekend.) We are trying to streamline homework on Seesaw this year. You may need to completely close out of the app and restart it for the activity to show up on their account, if it is not there when you log in. Also make sure they are using the Class App, or they will not be able to see the activity. Homework is posted at 3:45 each day.
• Students will have weeknight Fluency homework each week. Make sure to look for that and complete each night. Don't forget the comprehension piece on the back of the fluency page. The last sentence needs to be a complete sentence! Please make sure students complete each night and return to school on Friday. Reading Fluency will be graded and entered into PowerSchool.
