Mrs. Burch's Weekly Update (1/10)

Happy 2025! We had a great first week back to school! Ms. Favio has joined our classroom community and is already jumping into her student teacher intern role! The kids love having her here! As the weeks progress, she will be teaching different lessons/subjects and reaching out with communications and Seesaw posts. Ms. Favio will be with us through mid-April! Take a look at her welcome letter! We are all looking forward to her addition to our classroom! :)

We need some items for upcoming science investigations. Please see the Science Sign-up  if you're able to donate!

PLEASE make sure your child has a coat and winter gear available to bring to school! If you do not, please reach out. We go outside every chance we can, so they need to have to appropriate winter gear!! Snow pants keep them warm, even if they're not playing in the snow! Thank you for your help with this!

  • Phonics: Review "y as i"
  • Reading: Martin Luther King, Jr. nonfiction
  • Writing: Informational Writing about MLK, Jr.
  • Math: Addition & Subtraction, Money
  • Science: States of Matter
  • Social Studies: Economics

Upcoming Dates:

A few reminders:

  • I am still looking for a parent representative to attend PTO meetings. Please let me know if you are willing to serve in this capacity!
  • If you would like to volunteer in our classroom this year, please make sure you have filled out all the paperwork and have been cleared in the office before signing up! Here is the sign-up for Classroom Volunteers!
  • Please note: We do not celebrate birthdays with edible treats in 2nd grade. You are welcome to send in a pencil, small toy, or trinket for your child to pass out, if you wish! We will make sure their day is special regardless! 🎉

Save the Date - Hutchings Elementary PTO Fundraiser

On Tuesday, January 14th the delicious and generous Applebee's (3949 E. Grand River Ave.) is donating back 20% of Dine-In, Takeout & Pick up orders to support a great cause -- Hutchings Elementary PTO!

On behalf of Hutchings Elementary PTO you’re invited to join us and eat out, not only in support of the organization, but to show one of your Howell restaurants some love too!

We hope you can make it, and please feel free to forward this invitation to your friends and family. Thanks in advance for your support!

The Highlander Aquatic Center is hosting open swims that can help raise funds for the PTO! I have attached the flyer below that lists specific information. They are having a contest with elementary schools to see who can get the most swimmers to their open swims in January and February. Mention Hutchings PTO and we receive $1 for every swimmer and the school with the most swimmers will receive $500!
