Mrs. Burch's Weekly Update (12/20) ~ Happy Holidays!!

Happy Friday! Today marks the last day of the first semester! That means we're halfway through the school year. Crazy, isn't it?! I hope you have a wonderful holiday break, A Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!!  🎉 School will resume on January 6, 2025!

Miss Favio will be joining us as my student teacher intern from Oakland University starting in January! She's been working in our classroom a little here and there this past semester, but will be here every day January-April! More info coming from her when we return to school after break!

PLEASE make sure your child has a coat and winter gear available to bring to school! If you do not, please reach out. We go outside every chance we can, so they need to have to appropriate winter gear!! Snow pants keep them warm, even if they're not playing in the snow! Thank you for your help with this!

After break in 2nd grade:

  • Spelling list 13
  • Phonics: Review "y as i"
  • Reading: Snow Day & Brave Irene
  • Writing: New Year Goals
  • Math: Addition & Subtraction, Money
  • Science: States of Matter
  • Social Studies: People important to their Community

Upcoming Dates:
  • December 23-January 3--No School, Holiday Break!
  • School resumes January 6, 2025!
  • January 20--No School (MLK, Jr)
  • February 17--No School (President's Day)
  • March 12--Late start (school begins 10:15am)
  • March 13--Spring Conferences (as needed)
  • March 24-28--No School, Spring Break! ☀️
The 24/25 HPS Calendar can be found HERE!

A few reminders:

  • I am still looking for a parent representative to attend PTO meetings. Please let me know if you are willing to serve in this capacity!
  • If you would like to volunteer in our classroom this year, please make sure you have filled out all the paperwork and have been cleared in the office before signing up! Here is the sign-up for Classroom Volunteers!
  • Please note: We do not celebrate birthdays with edible treats in 2nd grade. You are welcome to send in a pencil, small toy, or trinket for your child to pass out, if you wish! We will make sure their day is special regardless! ðŸŽ‰

From PTO: The Highlander Aquatic Center is hosting open swims that can help raise funds for the PTO! I have attached the flyer below that lists specific information. They are having a contest with elementary schools to see who can get the most swimmers to their open swims in January and February. Mention Hutchings PTO and we receive $1 for every swimmer and the school with the most swimmers will receive $500!
