Mrs. Burch's Weekly Update (10/16)

Happy Friday! Today is the last day of the First Quarter! We made it through 9 weeks!!

Fall Conferences will be virtual this year. You also have the option of a phone conference, if you prefer that instead of Zoom. I will be slotting in families that have not signed up, so please take a look and make sure you have signed up.
Please plan for one conference per child. Both parents should attend the same conference. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/buconf

Homework Reminders:
*Nightly Fluency: Students need to be reading their fluency each night! They also need to do the questions on the back and write their response to the last question in complete sentences to receive full credit.
*Seesaw homework activities: Each weeknight there is a seesaw activity students need to complete. Some will be graded and entered into PowerSchool. Some are just for practice.
*Spelling Word Preview Words: Words are sent home Monday and will be tested each Friday.
*Spelling Words to Learn: Corrected Spelling Tests are being sent home today with your child. The only words that were "graded" were the five Word Preview Words from the beginning of the week. However, I did look over all the words on the test. These are all important second grade frequency words. Attached to the test is your child's Words To Learn. They are circled. These are the words he/she missed on the pretest (at the beginning of the year) and the test we took today. I will continue to add to the list each week and staple it to your child's test, so you have a current list of words they need to work on at home. Please go over the circled words with them. If a word is circled and starred, that means he/she has missed it more than once. Please extra practice those words!

Halloween Party Update from Mr. Moore:
Students can wear their costumes in their classrooms for the Halloween Party under the following stipulations:
1: No Masks (except the mandated mask. Yes...I know.) A Halloween mask does not replace the cloth facial covering / mask that must be worn by students during the school day.

2: No students will be able to share costume supplies with other students or bring items such as footballs, hockey sticks, hoola hoops, etc.

3: Students will not be permitted to change in the bathroom so all costumes must be able to go over the clothes students wear to school or worn to school. This would rule out the use of makeup or face paint within the classroom.

4: Any items for consumption must be individually wrapped or packaged; for example, an individual juice box is permitted where a two gallon jug of cider is not.

5: Per the elementary return to learn plan we will not be permitted to have parent volunteers in the building to assist with, or drop off items, before, during, or after the school day. Your child must be able to carry their costume into and out of the building.

6: Classroom activities will be within their classroom, not in hallways or other common areas to keep the students cohorted.

Next Week:
Reading: Nonfiction Readers Notice and Learn
Writing: Nonfiction facts, creative writing
Spelling: Homophones
Math: Unit 3 Subtraction Fact Strategies
Science: Matter Test (Monday)
Social Studies: Immigration & Ellis Island

Upcoming Dates:
*October 22 & 29-- Evening Elementary Conferences (sign up https://tinyurl.com/buconf)
*Picture Retake Day--November 11
*November 13--Half Day (dismissal 12:05 pm)

*November 25-27--Thanksgiving Break

Have a great weekend!! :)
