Happy Snow Day! We weren't expecting that, but the roads were sure dicey this morning! Hope you all had a great day! ❆
We had a busy week! We enjoyed two assemblies this week! Mr. Fisher came to teach us about pollinatators and pollination on Tuesday afternoon. He is going to come back in the spring and help us figure out which plants we should add to our beautiful Hutchings Garden to encourage pollinators to visit!
On Wednesday afternoon, Sensei Sam visited Hutchings to encourage kids to be their best self! He shared lots of positive affirmations and even included some karate during the assembly!
On Thursday morning, Mrs. Sulek's 4th grade friends visited to help us edit our personal narratives. It was productive and both the 2nd and 4th graders enjoyed their visit!
Our 2nd graders participated in 100th Day Challenges (like clapping hands, jumping in place, writing their name, doing jumping jacks, etc) in 100 seconds on Thursday, which was the 100th day of school! They had a blast! Check Seesaw for the video!
Valentine's Day is coming soon! We will exchange Valentines on Thursday, February 12. If you are interested in sending in a heart healthy treat for that afternoon, please let me know! The Valentine list and details came home last week, but you can grab the info below. 🩷

- We do not celebrate birthdays with edible treats in 2nd grade. You are welcome to send in a pencil or small trinket for your child to pass out if you would like, but I will make his/her day special regardless! Thank you for understanding!
- Don't forget: students need a healthy snack and a secure water bottle at school each day! We're having an issue with tops that don't close tightly OR that pop open easily. Please check your child's water bottle to make sure it's easy for them to latch. Thank you!
- If you would like to help in our classroom this year, please see our Classroom Volunteer Sign-up! Make sure to fill out the volunteer form and turn into the office BEFORE you volunteer! Please limit sign-ups to twice per month, so all parents have a chance. Spots will become available 60 days out, so make sure to check back if everything is currently filled.
Each year, Howell Public Schools honors two exceptional individuals through the Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year awards. These awards celebrate the dedication, professionalism, and daily impact of staff members who make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
Teacher of the Year nominees should be exceptionally skilled and dedicated professional educators, including teachers, counselors, and other instructional staff. Ideal candidates demonstrate deep knowledge of their students and engage in creative, imaginative, and inspiring teaching practices.
Support Person of the Year nominees should be individuals who go above and beyond to create a positive, respectful, and supportive environment where all students feel valued and achieve success. Eligible candidates include secretaries, library services coordinators, aides, computer technicians, food service workers, maintenance employees, and more.
All nominations are due by Monday, February 6, 2026, at 4 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered.
